TOURIST TRAFFIC.
ATTRACTING TRAVELLERS TO DOMINION. NEW ASSOCIATION FORMED. In an effort to develop further the tourist traffic of the Dominion it was decided at an informal conference, in Wellington last week to form a New Zealand Travel Association to assist time Government in its endeavours to encourage overseas visitors. The policy of the Association was drafted and a provisional executive was set up, representative of shipping, accommodation, motor transport, sporting, and general interests. A further meeting, to which the eomniittoe will report later with a set of rules, scheme of finance, etc., is to bo hold Within the next three months. In the meantime, steps arc to be taken to enrol members and obtain further financial support of which satisfactory promises wore made at the gathering. Mr A. P. Harper was appointed chairman, and Mr Geo. M. Fowlds, secretary. The provisional executive is as follows:—Mr E. Boulton, manager, United Service Hotel, Chriatchurch; Mr P. Objects Defined. The provisional draft of objects of the New Zealand Travel. Association are set out as follows: 1. The main policy of the Association is to work for the development by both State and private enterprise of the tounst traffic of the Dominion generally, and to advance, particularly, the interests of those engaged therein. 2. To assist, the Government in adequately advertising and marketing overseas, the scenic, sport, and health resources of New Zealand. 3. To co-ordinate the services of the various sections engaged in eatering to the wants of the travelling public and for this purpose to promote co-opera- ? . tl)0 State Railway, Tourist, and Publicity Departments. , 4. To work for necessary improvements from time to time in afiy of the facilities and services relating to the reception, accommodation, transportation, and entertainment of travellers to the Dominion, also for the due preservation of its scenery and historic sites. u.
