MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Mr H, A. Young, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. On a charge of procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, John Arneil was convicted and ordered to eome up for sentence if called upon within six months. John Maleolm, who pleaded guilty to being on licensed premises at a time when such premises were required to bo closed, was convicted and fined £2 and 10s costs. Children's Court. ' At a sitting of the Children's Court a boy pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing from a vessel in port 17s 6d in money and two coins valued at 255. He was placed under the care of the Child "Welfare Officer for two years, his father to refund 19s Gd, balance of the money not recovered. Another boy, charged with receiving part of the stolen money, was admonished and discharged, his father undertaking to refund the sum of 2s 6d, which his son had received. A boy appeared on a charge of stealing the sum of £3 10s from a coastal steamer. Sergeant W. H. Dunlop stated that the money had been recovered. He was placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for two years. Relief of Distress. The Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton), on behalf of, the' Belief Committee, stated yesterday that he had to thank all those who had so generously responded to his appeal for help. The committee is assisting twelve families, and this number is expected, to increase every wek. Ho appealed to those who have not yet sent in donations to assjist with gifts of cash, food, firing, and clothing. Children's boots, shoes, and clothing were badly needed, the change in the weather eausing several cases to be brought before him where, assistance is required.
