Briand's implacable opponent, moved his immediate replacement as Foreign Minister, owing to his failures at Geneva and his inability to <bomb&t the Customs UnioSi. Ho also objected to Mr Henderson's appointment as president of the Disarmament Conference, and said that he would have preferred M. Benes. lie added that -M. Briand, through the support of - members of the Left, ■ now virtually Leader of the Opposi Briand vigorously replied, and said that M. Benes did\n°t want - W. preside at the Disarmament Confermotion was lost by 318 votes to 261. :
