COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE. (MESS ASSOCIATION TBLEQB AM.) WELLINGTON, May 22. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) was the gtiest at , a local body luncheon following the opening of:the new bridge at Aorangi. The Mayor (Mr Taylor), who presided, said the times called for men of courage and conviction, and Mr Forbes was one of such men. Mr Forbes, replying, said Parliament had had to face the unpleasant task of . effecting reductions and, except for the Labour Party and one representative of the Country Party, had faced the task, recognising /that it oould not side-step hard economio fact. Reference was also made to local bodies. Mr Forbes eaid the time had come for an overhaul with a view to a reduction of costs. The Government was appointing a Committee for the purpose of enquiring into the whole , position. .
