ADEQUATE ESCAPES.

FIRE IN PANAMA HOTEL. (rnxss association mlbgsam.) WELLINGTON, May 22. The superintendent of the Fire Brigade, at a meeting of the Fire Board to-day, said the fire escapes at the Panama Hotel were adequate. The trouble was that the occupants did not use them but lost their heads and jumped. The last person saved was Mrs Hyde. She had the sense to wait, until the Brigade oould rescue her by a ladder. She was unhurt. Those who jumped were injured.

The Board decided to obtain a special report on the wooden hotels in Wellington. "Some are only built of scrim and paper," remarked one member.
