She has cancelled her acceptance of a position at Ashleigh House. School, Belfast, in order to return to New Zealand in December to reopen Tona College, Havelock North, or which she was appointed headmistress in September, 1925. At St. John's Presbyterian Church, Wellington, on Thursday, the-wedding was solemnised of Jean Gildawie, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. A. Troup, of Kelburn, Wellington, "to Mr Stanley D. E. Weir, son of Mr and Mrs D. Weir, of Auckland. Mr Troup wus until recently Mayor of Wellington, a position he had held for four years. The popularity of the Unity Dance Assembly's dances, held every Weduosday in the Oddfellows' Hall, St. Asaph street, was shown this week by the largo attendance of dancers. Lucky spot, Monto Carlo, and streamer dances were held. N. Carson's Orchestra supplied the music and Mr W. East was M.C. A meeting of the Barrhill-Lauriston branch of the l'lunket Society was held on Thursday afternoon at the residence of Mrs J. Doak, Barrhill.. Owing to the inclemency of tlio weather the attendance was very, small, there being present Mesdamos Doak (in the chair), It. Limbriek, L. Mangin, A. V Fairey and 0. Hooper. It was decided to arrange at next meeting how often meetings would be held, the next one to be at Lauriston in June.

The Optimists' Club held a dance at the Sydenham Football Club's Hall, where about fifty couples spent an enjoyable evening. The Monte Carlo dance was iron by Miss Snell and Mr Quin, and the lucky spot by Miss Foster and Me Connor. Mr Malian was M.C.

COMING-OP-AGE DANCE. Mf and Mrs J. Scoullar, of Avon-, side, entertained a number of relations and , friends at a dance , in' the Roileston Street Hall, in .honour y>f, the coming-of-ago of their daughter, Noreen. The hall and supper-room were decorated with coloured papers and chrysanthemums. Mr E. Scoullar proposed the toast for the guest of the evening, and Mr W. Gray that of the parents, Mr Scoullar responding. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Merle Cragg and partner, and _ the snowball dance by Miss Marjorie Eenge and Mr Len Roden. The guest of the evening wore an ankle-length salmon pink satin frock and bridge coat to match. Duckworth's De Luxe Orchestra supplied* the music. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs J. CONCERT AND DANCE. The Viewhill Tennis Club held a "wind up" concert at the schoolhouse, when an enjoyable evening was spent by a very, large gathering. Songs, recitations, piano solos, two plays, and several items by the schoolchildren, trained by Miss Mounsey, were much enjoyed. , - ; After the concert, the prizes were presented by the president, Mr Gordon. Mrs Pavelka, won the prize given by Ashby, Bergh and Co., and Mrs Denton the prize given by Mr K. Meyers . . After supper, dancing was enjoyea, the music being stipplied by Knowles orchestra, and extras played by Miss McConnel. Miss Mounsey, and Messrs S. Smith and McConnel, jun.
