On Thursday evening the Lyttelton Sea Scouts held a successful dance in the Trinity Schoolroom, which was decorated with multi-coloured streamers for the occasion. A: Irwin noticed that a large pane of glass in a window in the basement of the hardware shop of Forbes, Ltd., had been tyroken. Beneath-the window, which faces the railway; siding, was a wheel-barrow. Constable Irwin qrnckly summoned two Harbour Board watchMessrs S. W. Lane , and N. W. Scott, and, posting Mr Lane at the front entrance to the shop in Norwich quay, sent the other watchman for Mr C. Curties, head shopman], while the constable himself took up, a position by the broken window. When Mr Curties opened the shop and turned the lights on there was a scuffle at the back and two. men emerged. Constable Irwin handcuffed one man, but the other escaped. He, had been recognised by the constable, and was arrested later. At the Lyttelton ,Magistrate's .Court yesterday morning David; Wilson Dodds, aged 23, and Arthur Neville Goodmanson, aged 20,. appeared before Messrs T. Lester, J.P., and W. C. Cleary, J.P., charged with breaking and entering the shop of Forbes, Ltd., with intent to commit a crime. , Sergeant W. T. Kelly asked for a remand until Wednesday next, stating that other charges were pending. Accused were remanded in custody. Seamen's Institute. An enjoyable concert arranged by Mrs Blair (Lyttelton Guild) was given in the Seamen's Institute on Thursday ; evening. The programme was as follows:—vocal duets, Misses Perry; songs, Misß Shuger, Mr Symonds; recitations, Bev. C. ; Blair ; concertina solos, Mf Toner. Thef accompanist was Miss Shuger.
