TRENTHAM NOTES.

PREPARING FOR WINTER RACING [THE PRESS Special Sonrice.] WELLINGTON, April 29. Trentham tracks are at present m first rate order, and with the approach of the winter meetings one °r two horses are being regularly schooled. The schooling hurdles are being provided with brush wings, which will assist trainers in the education of recruits, as previously thero has been nothing to prevent them from running off if so inclined. H. Telford is keeping Malayan and Tea Queen going, with a, viqw to VViinganui and Masterton. No doubt with the idea of racing Malayan over a longer distance than he has yet attempted his work is being extended. Yesterday he ran a mile and a quarter, going good pace work until being picked up by Tea Queen at the half, whence they came home in 53sec. Malayan should be a good winter horse, as lie lilies soft going. Lady Pam, with Spear Lad over the first half, and Fair Wind over the concluding portion, ran a miie in lmin 47sec. doing it well. R. Reed will have the mount again at Masterton. J. Kyle is working a useful looking sort of gakling named Azure, a rising four-year-old, by Sky Blue iron) Whakatina. He has already showed aptitude as a jumper. Yesterday, with Bright Song, ho ran three furlongs in 39sec. Actaeon. Mr Kemball's recent purchase from the Ngatarawa stable, will make his first appearance at the Masterton Meeting on the second day. Yesterday, in company with Foul Wind and Vitaphone. lie ran the lasi three of his work in 87sec. Historic, with Zephyrus, ran the last seven of their work in lmin 3'Jj sec, the first half in 53 4-ssee. Historic, who has not done much lately, blew very hard, and also made a noise while galloping. Granado and the Limond filly Lyrical sprinted pleasingly. Black Mint and Courtlike sprinted over the last furlong of their work. Black Mint has done good work lately without making any time. Eminent pot awav ahead of Winloeh and Hinewehi at- the half, but waited for them, and made a good pick up at the three. Eminent and Winloeh finished two or three lengths ahead in 49sec, the last three in 3Gset\ both going very well. Hymjn;eat (A. Jenkins) and Courageous (P. Burgess) schooled over the hurdles. Courageous was inclined to got in a bit too close to the jumps, hut they gave a good display. Courageous will probably have his first race over tho obstacles fit Wangarui. They afterwards ran six furlongs in lmin 27sec J. McLaughlin is trying Staghunter over the hurdles. Continuing his education. which has so far shown him very apt, he jumped four fences and did.it well. He is very active and clever at his jumps. Tho Press Association message from Nelson announcing seratchings for Thursday included the name of Lady Rene. This was an error. Lady Rene left yesterday in company with Black Mint, White Doe. and Courtlike. She will bo ridden by the stable apprentice L. Sinclair, E. Burgess wijl ride White Doe and Courtlike, while _K. E. Coveny will be on Black Mint. Black Mint, by tho way. is the only Trentham representative in the Auckland nominations. The other Trentham horsps engaged at Nelson also" left yesterday. Dainty- Ways has been turned out for good, and her place in. A. Good-; man's stable has been -taken by a ■;tliree-year-old filly, by Acre from Matin Chimes; which is a present from Good-: man's former patron, Mr J. O'Meara. C. Pritchara, whtf took _Taura Lad and The Sun to Nelson, will leave tho former there with his owner. Both St. Roger and Oratorian hare been gelded prior to being turned out until their spring preparations. The leases of Lady Rene and Courtlike have been cancelled. The former : will run in the colours of her trainer, A: Goodman, and Courtlike reverts to Mr J. Bridgeman. The way has now been cleared for' the holding of the Taumaranui Racing Club's Meeting at Ellerslie in July, the permit fAr the second day becoming available by' the Poverty Bay Turf Clnb handing in its ,remaining one for the season.
