CITIZENS' BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tbc Ohvistchurch Citizens' Benevolent Association was lield yesterday morning, the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) presiding. The chairman said that as lie was going out of office as Mayor ho wished to square up everything, so that his successor would start with a clean sheet. He regretted that in arranging the date of the meeting he had overlooked the fact that the Hospital Board's meeting was on, and three members of the Association and of the Board —Mrs Green, Miss Cardale, and Mr J. S. Barnett —were unable to attend the Association's meeting. ! Rev. P. Eevell presented the balance-1 sheet, which showed that of the total | revenue (including £lO3 brought forward from the previous year), amounting to £3BO, the sum of £250 was spent in charity, leaving a balance to credit of £l3O. The balance-sheet was adopted, the chairman remarking that the position was fairly satisfactory. Officers were elected as follows: Treasurer, Rev. P. Revell; secretary, Mrs A. Chidgey. Mr ReveJl moved a vote of thanks to the chairman for his services during his six years' term of office as Mayor, and said that of the Mayors of whom he had had experience Mr Archer was the best; he had been earnest, kind, and keen in the work. The relationship between the Mayor and the members had been particularly happy. Ho (the Bpeaker) knew that th>3 Mayor's heart had been very deeply in the work. The chairman, acknowledging the vote of thanks, said that he had taken an ordinary natural interest in the work, and had tried to do all that he could. Coal and Blanket Fund. Those present then met as the Mayor's Coal and Blanket Fuud Committee, the Mayor presiding. On the recommendation of the Bonevolent Association the following were the committee: —Mesdames F. E. Biltcliff, J. Johnstone, J. Bissett, J. Bellamy, J. Blackaby, H. Sturge, M. Poster, T. Green, Sisters Agnes, Ruth, and Lenna, Adjutant Coombs, Adjutant Canty, Messrs J. 8. Barnett, and V. H. French, Misses Cardale, Gainsford, and Holland, Rev. P. Revell, and Mr J. K. Archer. Mrs A. Chidgey was re-elected secretary. Mr Archer was elected chairman in the place of the Rev. Prank Rule. Mr J. S. Neville (Town Clerk) was reelected treasurer. This was the first meeting of the committee for the present year, and a large number of applications for relief were received, and will be considered at the committee's next meeting on May 13th.
