ROAD PAVING.
WAIMAKARIRI BRIDGE approach. HIGHWAYS BOARD'S OFFER. In company with members of the Waimairi County Council, Messrs M. H. Wynyard and C. J. Talbot, of the Main Highways Board, Mr A. Tyndall, the Board's Engineer, and Mr F. Langbein, District Public Works Engineer, yesterday paid a visit to the Waimakariri bridge and discussed the position which has arisen in respect to the improve* ment.and maintenance of the road leading to the bridge. The chairman of the County Council (Mr C. E. Cross) had expressed the opinion that the Board should provide a subsidy of £4 for £1 to enable the work to be undertaken, but the Board had refused to consider the proposition. It is understood that a tentative amicable agreement was come to yesterday in regard to the matter, and that if it is approved by the Board at its meeting in Wellington to-day it will enable the County Council to proceed with arrangements for the paving of the road. Riccarton Borough. An inspection was also made of portions of Riccarton road and Lincoln road, which run through the Riccarton Borough. A proposal was made by the Board regarding the latter, which, if approved by the Council, will enable the paving of the highway to be proceeded with. In regard to the Riccarton road, however, further negotiations will be required before finality is reached.
