| TEMUKA. Mrs McKeown, of Cliristchurch, is staying with her son, Mr F. H. McKeown, stationmaster, at Temuka. Mrs J. A. Munro, Pareora,!has been visiting her parents, Mr : and Mrs Brookland, Temuka. Miss E. Alexander, postmistress at Winchester, who has been on annual leave, has resumed her duties. At a special meeting of the Board of Managers of the Temuka Technical School on Friday evening, Mr E. B. Cooper was appointed director in succession to Mr J. T. Smart, whose resignation the meeting also accepted. Mr Cooper, who hqd been a member of the Board, resigned in order to take U P his new duties. Before the business of the meeting began the chairman, Mr G. B. Cartwright, welcomed Mr A. E. Smith, the new member, to fill the vacancy on the Board caused by tbe death of Mr F, Sailders. The annual report, which was adopted, stated' that during the year the death of Mr M. H McLeod, a manager, had occurred, and the Board placed on record its great appreciation of the services rendered to technical education by Mr McLeod during a long term of years. Mr. E. B. Cooper, jun., was elected io fill the vacancy. The' chairman reported that, the dressmaking class had now 36 pupils, and the instructor of the wool-classing classes notified that several of- Inst year's pupils intended taking classes again this year. - When accepting the resignation ot the past director, thd. Board paid warm tributes to Mr Smart's 23 years' directorship. Members stated that his term of office was one of long and distinguished service. It was decided to leave the matter of forming wool-classing classes in the hands of the director and the chairman.
PEEL FOREST. i On Friday night people came from all over the district to say good-bye to Mr apd Mrs D. Pringle, who are leaving Mt. Peel Station, after a residence of eleven years in the Peel Forest district. No further proof of the high esteem in which Mr and Mrs Pringlo axe held in the district cculd have been given than by the largo crowd that filled the Peel Forest Hall. The function took the form of a social and dance. Speaking for the Peel Forest residents, Mr E. 8,, Foden referred to the social qualities of the guests, and Mentioned that Mr Pringle had been chairman of, the Hall and Library Committees, and president of the Kifle Olub. He then presented Mrs Pringle with a xylonite dressing case, and Mr Pringle with a set of Loewe pipes, and both with a handsome barometer set in aa oak case inscribed. Mr H. D. Acland, on behalf of the Acland Estate, presented Mr Pringle with a case of stainless cutlery and silyerware. Ho told of their guest's work through the years, and of the success that had crowned his efforts. Mr and Mrs Pringle would always be remembered for their many i acta of courtesy and kindness. Dr. Hugh Acland then' spoke of: the happy [ relations that had always' existed between their guests and his own family. Pringle, who was cheered when he' rose to thank the guests for their attendance,. and for their ;presents,. said he had only endeavoured, through his years as manager? to do his duty. He liked Mt. Peel, the people of Peel Forest, and his employers, but he felt that the day had arrived when he must give way to younger men. Supper was then served and dancing was continued until late, when the singing of Auld Lang Syne brought the evening to a" conclusion. *
