NEW BRIGHTON MUNICIPAL UNKS.

In beautiful w.eather and before a large number of players and their friends, mem- . bers of the Raw hit I Golf Olub and players on the municipal links officially opened the 1831 season on Saturday afternoon. The visitors were ,welcomed'by the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr J. HI Shaw), who is of the .Advisory Boara to the. municipal links. Mr Shaw ss.id that the Board had done a great deal of good work on the links since the close of last season, and players would appreciate the N improvement. The formation of the Bavtrhiti Club had been a necessary step r and had been completely' successful, players obtaining their golfing status. It was t>leasing to note that the a'ciiyities of the cluo in no- way intorfered with the municipal players who were non-members. Mr Shaw padded that approximately £630 had • been taken in. fees last year, which augured well for the present season. Owing to the Inadequacy of the pavilion as a tea room, the Board was considering the matter of building a tea room. The speaker con. eluded: by referring to harmonious working of tho Christchuroh City Council and. the Mew Brighton " Borough Council in ' blatters relating to the municipal golf links. The Mayor of Christchurch (Rev. J. K. Archer) said that everybody agreed that the municipal links were a great success.. The' general lay-ont of. the area was undoubtedly suitable for golf links, and the transformation that had taken place as a result of their formation was wonderful. In declaring the season opeh, the president of the Rawhiti Olub (Mr 6. W. Bishop) said that'the club had assisted the B6ard arranging open competitions. .
