CASH CYCLING.
NEW ZEALAND < CHAMPIONSHIPS. SATURDAY'S MEETING. Five New Zealand cash cycling championships were decided at a meeting of cydlists and runners, conducted by the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic, Cycling, and i Axemen's Union on Saturday afternoon at English Pax-k. The racing was interesting, but in i some of the events was, hardly up to Dominion championship standard. There was a strong muster of Canterbury riders, however,, and honours, in the more important events were well distributed. . , The New Zealand champion, A. (->■ Ritchie, whose strong riding appeals particularly to any crowd, secured the quarter-mile and three mile titles, but was:beaten in the mile ©vent in ® thrilling finish, by H. Turtijl, a West Coast man, who has ridden well before in Christchiirch. Ritchie relies for his finish mainly on weight and fextreme pushing power; Turtill combines these qualities with- superior pedalling technique. Ritchie, who finished second m the milej disqualified for cutting in on] the leading riders, and- in the same race there was a crash between B. A.. Fraridsen and Tj.~\V. Hill, resulting in the Withdrawal of the former.' from further racing. . , Hill was another, outstanding rider, gaining Vthe two-mile title with splendid .ride. Another West Coast boy- P Duffy, rode promisingly, and. showed.judgment in his riding in the' boys' half mile he won., .
