Alexander James Hancock, and Mary Joan -Hancock, all minors-—of Henry Gilbert Hancock, who was killed in Aprils 1980, was fixed by his Honour Mr Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court yesterday. Three of the children had been in the care of St, Joseph's Orphanage since before their father's death, and the other in the c »re o* her maternal grandparents, v Alexander and Mary Keane. . * The first petition for guardianship was from Mary Ann Hancock, the paternal grandmother of the children/ and this was opposed by Alexander 'and Mary Keane, who also petitioned for guardianship. Mr AV. J. Stacey appeared for the first petitioner, and Mr H T). Acland for the . «econd petitioners. , His Honour, in his judgment, set out that the maternal grandparents had an advantage in thejr resources, and in the fact that they were living in the country. It was also an advantage that when a child was of certain religion, it should be living with guardians of the same religion. At had not been the practice of the Court to annoint a mnrried woman as "?ol® guardian. i The petition of Marv Ann Hancoclt was dismissed. and that of Alexander and Mary Keane granted, these two being appointed joint euardians.
