A highly sensational trial has ended in the death sentence being imposed on Frits Saffran, and his Child, Kipnich, and « sentence of five years' imprison*; meat with.hard labour- on Ella Augustin. (Saffran's secretary) for the murder of a milk&an. "Y ' . The Public Prosecutor expressed.the opinion that Kipnich actually fired shot, but the others were accessories, and equally guilty. There was a dramatic scene earlier, when the skull of the victim was shown to the accused' meta, who revealed no emotion, but Augustin refused to look* < The .trial was characterised' by . the remarkable outbursts of emotion. When counsel'sspeeches- concluded Saffron, tearfully said: I deeply . regret the deed, and Wish to atone. AugUßtin said: I did everything .for love. Saffran is not a bad man. Kipnich said: lam sorry, and Would * like to show once more that I am a decent man. \ Augustin jumped up and called out: But you are the murderer., , \*" Kipnich appeared to be struek dumb, then said:. God will reveal the murderer. ' Perhaps you will have the victim on your conscience. [Saffran -insured bis life for £7OOO, after which fie and his accomplices drove about the country seeking a victim to murder, in twd'er that the body might be identified mistakenly as Saffran's. They stopped a milkman' on a bicycle, and shot him, took his body to a warehouse, placed Saffran's keys, cuff-links, < . and rings in the pockets, saturated the whole with petrol and set it on fire. Later the insurance monjey was paid over to Saffran's secretary.]
