II ARE WOOD ROAD. A deputation from the Papanui Pro gress League, comprising Messrs W t~ Boyco (president), R. p ickeA ' Fitzgerald, T. A. Grose, and G a r Tapper, waited on the Works c n ' -1' tee of the City Council on Tuesday Wh reference to the paving of the sides of Harewood road. It was asked that ibe permancnt surfacing should be carried to each side of the road and the side-channels covered as on the Papanui road It wa , pointed out that it was impossible to park a car on the St. Paul's Church side at present and bo clear of thn +, The nuisance caused by dust was stressed Tho chairman of the Works Committee thanked the deputation and promised that the request would be favourably considered. Later the deputation waited on tlir. stationmastor at Papanui with a view to getting the lfarewood railway cross ing sealed and the footpath formed. At present the chain of roadway under the control of the Department is in a very rough state. The stationmaster (Mr McAloon) forwarded the request to the proper quarter and it is understood th-it something -will be done. Young Sports' Club. A genera] meeting of the Papanui young Sports' Club was held on Monday evening, Mr L. Buckley presiding over an attendance of nearly fifty junior cyclists. Mr Buckley reported that the committee had decided to link up with the Papanui Amateur Sports Club, and, with the approval of that body, that the club should be known as tho Papanui Amateur Sports Club, Junior Branch. When this was given effect to, the club would be affiliated to the centre through tho senior club. The meeting approved of tho action of the committee. Messrs D. S. Swanston and E. Jones were added to the committee. Mr T. A. Grose, captain of tho senior club, addressed the meeting on the rules governing the sport, and also suggested that instead of running the race to West Melton and return next Saturday, it should be to Bolleston, taking advantage of tho paved roads. All non-competing members were asked to assist with tho sports meeting to be held in the Papanui Domain this afternoon. Bowling. The progress of tho Club Championships is as follows:—Singles (A section): Hadley, jun., beat Broughton; Bandy beat McKinley, Broughton, Childs, and Nunweek; McKinley beat Hadley, ,iun., and Broughton. B section: C. Smith beat Wilson. C section: Quigley beat Pool, Orbell, and H. Kettle; Morrison beat Quigley, Orbell, and H. Kettle; Banks beat Morrison. In the doubles, Hadley, jun., and Morrison beat Broughton and Broughton, also Bond and Orbell; Eagleton and McKinley beat Shaw and Quigley; Nunweek and H. Kettle beat Shaw and Quigley. In tho handicaps for first, second, and third year members Broughton beat Cooper and Kottlo; Lango beat Clarke, Chapman, and Nunweek; Clarke beat Kettle; Chapman beat Cooper; Cooper beat Nunweek; Kettle beat Chapman, Cooper, and Nunwoek; Thome beat Clarke and Cooper. In rfhe B section Bond beat Eagleton, E. Smith, Noble, Williamson, and Wilson; Williamson beat Eagleton. Tho colts played New Brighton on Wednesday for the Colts' Shield, and won by 29 to 8. The team was J. Lange, H. H. Thorne, R. Bond, and W. Broughton (skip).

Waimairi School. At a meeting of tho Waimairi School Committee held on Tuesday evening, Mr A. Haynes presided. It was reported that work at the tennis courts and additions to the asphalt had been carried out, as well as fencing to the school gardens. Mr Haynes stated that £9O had been forwarded to the Education Board on application for the subsidy on the building of tho dental clinic. It was decided to call tenders for levelling and grading part of the school grounds. The Education Board wrote advising of the appointment of Mrs Anderson as infant mistress, in place of Miss Cook. It was decided, much discussion, that the prize-giving should take place at the school on the afternoon of December 18th. The women of the committee were appointed to judge the sewing. Tho Papanui Rugby Football Club had given a prize for a race for boys in the football teams. It was decided to run this race on the afternoon of the break-up, as, if it was left to the picnic, some of the boys might find it inconvenient to be present. Tho date of tho picnic was fixed for the second week of February.

Papanui School. The Tapanui School Committee met on Wednesday evening. Present were Messrs W. Sandford (chairman), O. Dyer (secretary), G. Wray, J. Cains, L. Claridge, IP. Claridge, S. Craighead, T. Jcal, and R. Donald, and the headmaster (Mr J. Noble). The headmaster reported that the proficiency examination had been held, but the results were not to hand. Tho new linoleum in the corridors was a great improvement. The programme for the annual children's concert was well in hand, and it was resolved that the proceeds from the concert should be left in the hands of the masters for a sports fund for the children. The appointment of Miss Sanders as probationary assistant terminates at the end of January. The dux medals will be presented at tho annual concert. At the request of the headmaster, it was decided to plant a border round the flower gardens.
