CONFERENCES OF FARMERS.
A SUGGESTION REFUTED. (press association telegkam.) HAWEBA, December 4. A refutation of a suggestion that the objective of the forthcoming sis conferences being held throughout the Dominion by the Farmers' Union was the establishment of a new political party was given in a reply to queries at a meeting of the South Taranaki Provincial Executive to-day. The secretary, Mr E. K. Cameron, who is supervising the arrangements for the first conference at Hawera on December 17th, explained that the object was not the formation of a political pjjrty, but it was felt necessary to have a primary producers' organisation which could influence the Government or Parliamentary candidates to endorse action which was regarded by the Union as essential. The Dominion Executive, realising the serious situation facing the primary industries, was merely seeking to provide an opportunity for united action. The Union's policy to that end would be expounded at the conferences.
