HOBBS AND SUTCLIFFE. TACTICS IN INDIA CRITICISED. (U£lT£& PSESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYEIGHT.) DELHI, December 3. There has been some caustic comment on barn-door cricket as played by J. B. Hobbs and H. Sutcliffe. Following thoir stolid exhibitions in Calcutta, both adopted "Johnny won't hit today*' tactics at Bangalore. Hobbs batted for nearly an hour and a half for 38, and then retired. Sutcliffe, after two and a quarter hours* play unfinished, made 56. In the first innings both were run out, when Hobbs was 46 and Sutcliffe 2. It is felt that England's first cricket pair are not giving of their best—possibly at the Maharaj Kumar's orders, as Vizianagram team wants to win the matches. In Calcutta, when asked why he scored only five runs in an hour, Hobbs replied that !fe was playing to orders, just as he was accustomed to do for his county.
