TENDERS FOR AIR-MAIL SERVICE.
[THE PRESS Special Service.] AUOKEAND, December 4. Tenders for the daily transport of mail by air each way between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Duncdin have been called by the Goveminent, and will close to-day. "There have been quite a number of enquiries from companies likely to tender, and it, is anticipated that several offers will be received," said the Postmaster-General, the lion. J. 13. Donald. "It is hoped that the Government will be in n position to announce the acceptance of a tender next week, and it is probable that the servico will be in operation before next Easter. The contract will be for three years, the date of commencement to be mutually arranged. The successful company is to be allowod to retain a surcharge of 3d an ounce as a payment for service, less per cent, to cover, the cost to the Government of transporting mail between the airports and post offices."
