DUNBDIN, November 20

Tiie Education Board to-day gare further consideration to the appointment of a married woman teacher to the Totara School, respecting which there has been considerable local agitation. A letter was received from the residents of the district stating that a public meeting had carried a resolution of protest against the appointment. A further letter from the JSducatlon Department intimated that it could not give the Board' discretionary powers. . The chairman, Mr J. Wallace; Baid that as the wompn was the highest graded applicant, the Board had no alternative but to appoint her. A motion that' the applicant be asked to ■withdraw lapsed for want of a seconder, and the appointment was confirmed.
