A mishap - ■which occurred (luring shunting operations at the Papanui railway station at about 0.30 a.m. on Saturday, resulted in a goods van being derailed and damage being done to the buffers of both the van and a passenger carriage. Tho train to which the van was attached was standing on the loopline, when for somo reason it was shunted back until the rear bogie passed over a set of points which were set against tho direction of the train. When the carriages and the van were moved forward again tho rear bogie took tho wrong road and the van was consequently dragged off the rails.
