SUMNER SURF CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. During last season there were no serious accidents on Sumner beach, which was safely guarded at all essential times. On each week-end a lookout was maintained and an emergency life-saving team was always ready. This was disclosed by the nineteenth annual report of the Sumner Surf and LifeSaving Club, tp be presented at the annual meeting nest Thursday. The report continues: Opening day was held on November 30th, 1929. There was a fair attendance of members and friends. A good sea was running and a team gave an excellent display. Permanent patrolmen. J Brewara and E. Johansen, were on duty for periods over the holidays and their advice to bathers was much anoreciated. It is hoped to have sufficient money available to provide this protection for tlio public again this season. The bank overdraft has been reduced-, to £lB 14s Id. despite tho fact that £2O in liabilities was carried over fronilast year. There are fifty outstanding. subscriptions and these are all _ considered good. But for these two items the club would havo a substantial credit balance. The membership now stands at 274. This is less than last year, but a considerable number with outstanding subscriptions have been struck off the roll. During the year 43 new members vtere enrolled ana 31 resigned. The hon instructor reported on the increased interest displayed by members in life-saving. Fflrtythree awards were gained, and this is a direct result of his training. The club competed in all competitions with fair success. Placings ware One first, three thirds, and one fourth. The ladies' team wer§ again successful in winning the Mdnica Thicker Shield and the.v were to be congratulated on their fine performance.
