ELDERLY MAN'S DEATH
•' ♦- EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. (pass's ASSOCIATION TELEQRAH.) WELLINGTON. November 13. At the inquest into the death cf Thomas O'Bj'rne, aged 53, single, Frederick J. Hickman, poultry farmefi of Lower Hutt, said that O'Byrne appeared to walk into the side of the truck when witness was driving past Lambton Station. Witness estimated his speed at six miles an hour. He „was positive the - truck did not pass over O'Byrne's body. Visibility was very Bad" and there were few people about.' • H. MeCahon, a tunneller, said he was crossing to catch the train. He saw an object lying on the ground, and saw a inotor-car approach and pass "over it with both back and* front wheels. The car was proceeding at about twenty iniles an hour and did not stop. _ _ ' The medical evidence was that there was a multiple fracture of the ribs and signs of internal injuries to the lungs. It was more likely that the Injuries were-caused by O'Byrne being run over while on the ground rather than through walking into Hickman's truck.
The Coroner, in his verdict, said that O'Byrne's death was caused by his being knocked down by a truck driven by .Hickman and then being run over by a motor-car driven by some person unknown. '
