Jharia, a small colliery town in Bihar, is in danger owing to the subsidence of a big portion of a mine on tho outskirts. A deafening crash awoke the sleeping inhabitants in the early morning and a large building collapsed, k.'iling Babu Handas Shawanji, a local millionaire. Daylight revealed that a considerable area had sunk « foot, and. as portion of the town is built over the underground workings, panic prevails. The occupants'of many houses fled as the r#sult of ominous rumblings.
