SUMNER SPORTS BODY.
UNITED ASSOCIATION MEETS. A meeting of the Sumner United Sports Association was held last night. Present were Mr G. F. Allen, president, Messrs K. G. Shrimpton and E. T. Chitty (cricket), J. S Kite (Life-saving)* L. K. Jones (Rugby), L. H. Chapman, and P. Dick (Athletic Club), R. H. Neville (Tennis Club), G. Murray (Soccer football), and C. L. Allen, secretary. A report was received upon St. Leonard's square. The Rugby representative stated that the barbs on the Boutli fence ruined five balls last season. Tho hedges and trees were being damaged by careless cyclists and others who thoughtlessly broke the young branches and hindered the growth required for shelter. It was decided that plans and estimates for shelters should be submitted to the next meeting. \ A report was received upon the last conference with the New Brighton Association. A debate had been arranged, and the prospects for golf and hockey matches were much improved. The following delegates were appointed for the next conference:—Messrs Chitty and Chapman, the president, and the secretary. It was decided to invite New Brighton to include members other than delegates if they so desired. It was further arranged that the points for discussion at the conference should include school football, school athletics, hockey, and golf. Correspondence was received from the Sumner Civic Federation asking for the appointment of delegates. It was decided to write stating that, while the Association approved of the principle of federation, it thought that the appointment of delegates would cause dual representation, but that the Federation might consider keeping in touch with the Association by including the latter's president amongst its vice-presidents. Tho Bowling Club forwarded a full report on the snooker and billiard tournament. The Athletic Club wrote regarding the inclusion of pupils from the School for the Deaf, and regarding the primary school age. The treasurer's report showed a balance of £lO 13s. The secretary reported that this year's contests to date resulted in New Brighton winning the bowling, billiards, snookeiv Rugby football, athletics, and school basket- , brill. Sumner had won the sohool.Rugby and the tennis match. Cricket, fire brigade, lifesaving, croquet, school cricket, and cadets' rifle shooting still remained on the programme.
