THE TRAMWAYS. ♦ —— MEETING OF BOARD. The Christchurch Tramway Board met yesterday afternoon, Mr'AV. Havward presiding. Others present were Mra E. R. McCombs, Messrs H. Pearce, G. T. Booth, John Wood, W. J. Walter, D. Svkes, E. LI. Andrews, a»d W. Williamson. The Works and Traffic Committee reported that arrangements had been made for the Templeton bus service to be run by Mr W. C. Sanders: the Board would receive all the revenue. Mr Sykes said that he was definitely agsirst such an arrangement. The Board should keep the services in its own hands, he said. Mrs E. R. McCombs characterised it as an evasion of the Arbitration Act. "The committee gave the matter a great deal of thought," said the chairman. He was convinced, he said, that it was the best arrangement that could be come to in the interests of the Board and the public. The clause was adopted, Mrs McCombs and Mr Sykes recording their votes against it. When a resolution: "That the balancesheet for the year ended March 31st, 1930. having been considered, be now settled," came forward, Mrs McCombs remarked that the report had already been given to the newspapers. The chairman said that theßoard had not discussed it fully as yet. Mrs McCombs: I cannot see any object in sending it to the committee. ; Mr Andrews said that certain features of the balance-sheet had been discussed, although there was still a certain amount of benefit to be derived from further consideration. It might have a bearing on. future policy. "Matters of this sort are always discussed, bit by bit, from time to time,", he added. Mr Sykes said that economies had been made wherever possible. He had not seen any insurances shown, however. 'Mr Booth: We can discuss this more freely in committee. It was decided to refer the matter to the committee concerned for consideration.
