WEEKLY REVIEW. A LARGER TURNOVER. During the past week markets on the whole were more active, and prices generally were firmer than they have been for some weeks past. The number of transactions recorded on the Metropolitan Exchanges is the largest weekly total since tlio end of June, and while Lhe demand is for the most part confined to the moro popular stocks, espec- • ally Banks, there has been a fair turnover in other sections of the maiket. Christchurcli Tramway Board Debentures changed hands at £lOl 15s. In Government Loans per cent., 1038 Stock remained unaltered at £99 15s, and there are furthei unsupported sellers at that price. Four and a half l>er cent. 1939 Stock realised £99 17s Cd. Four and a half per cent. Bonds, 1938, had dealings at par and £99 15s. Five and a quarter per cent. 1933 Stock was placed at £9B 10s, and late unsupported holders want £9B 12s Cd. Five and a half per cent. 1933 Stock was easier with business at £99 7s 6d—the Bonds realised £99 10a, and late buyers are offering theso prices without attracting sellers. Banking Section. In the- banking section prices hardened and closed on higher levels than at the end of last week. Commercial Bank of Australia shares were easily the most popular stock, and on a local turnover of 5900 shares, ranged from 16s to 19s Id to 17s, closing at 18s — the preference changed hands at £6 8a (sd, £6 9s 6d, and £6 10s. Australian of Oommorie had dealings at 18s and 19s as against 17s 6d and 18s last week and there are further buyers at 19s, • ellers at 19s 4d. Commercial of Sydney are wanted at £lB, sellers at &18 12s 6d—last recorded business was at £lB 17s fid (September 10th). E., S., and A. realised £5 6s 6d, £5 7s 6<l, and £5 8s 6d, and n&re are on offer at £5 8s 6d, buyers at £5 Bs. National of Australasia, £lO paid, jumped to £l3 7s Gd. £ll 10s, and £ll 12* Cd—the £5 paid advanced to £5 15s—both issues 1 "s : n" with huvers of the fully oaid at £l2 and of the £5 paid at £5 19s. sellers at £l2 10s and £6 2s 6d respectively. Nefv South Wales, which ensed to £3O last week had business th ; s week at £33 ss, and more are wantad at £33 2s 6d, sellers at £33 15s. Now Zealand, which declined to 49T 6d and closed at 52s last week, have this week advanced from 52s to 53s 3d. •Tnion Banks ranged from £9 6s to £lO Gs, as compared with £S 10s to £9 a week ago,- and late buyers are offering £0 10s, sellers at £lO. Insurance and and Agency. New Zealand . Insurance at 40s 3d and 40s 6d, show a rise of 26 6d on lowest level reached last week. South British were firmer at 55s 6d and 55s 9d, and subsequent buyers offered 56s 3d, sellers, at 57s 6d. Dalgety and Company shares changed hands at £8 10s, uvd more are available at && 7s, buyers at £8 ss. Goldsbrougb Morts moved between 19a 9d and 20s 8d (last week l'/s 4ri 5305), market closing 20s 7d b'.yerfc, 20s 9d sellers. Dominion Investment and Banking were steady at 19s 6d and New Zealand and River Plates at 28s show no change on previously recorded turnover. New Zealand Guarantee Corporation shares cum dividend were a shade easier at 7s 9d. United Building Society, ex dividend, were taken at 15s 6d, and late sellers are offering at 15s 3d, buyers at 14s 9d. Wellington Trust Loan and Investment shares realised £7 0s 6d. Shipping and Ct-as. Huddart Parkers, which eased to 30s a fortnight ago, are now on offer at 275, buyers at 245. Northern Steam fully paids weakened to 14s 3d. Auckland Gas fully paid declined from 23s 9d to 23s 4d and 23s 2d. Christchurch are firmer on buyers' offers 25s 7d, sellers at 26s 6d, last week's business was at 25s 6d. Markets for Frozen meat, Woollens, and Coal shares were quiet and no transactions were recorded. Breweries. Recorded dealings in this section were restricted to New Zealands, Staples, Tooheys, and Tooths. New Zealands had a local turnover of 2125 shares, and prices fluctuated from 45s to 44s 6d, to 455, to 44s Id. Staples had dealings at 39s and 39s 3d and late sellers are asking 395, buyers at 375. Tooths Brewery shares ranged from 21s 8d to 22s 9d as against 21s 6d last week, and closed with buyers at 22a 7d, sellers at 23s 6d. Tooheys Brewery shares advanced to 16s 3d. Miscellaneous. In the Miscellaneous Investment Section. Australian Glass hardened from 22s 9d to 25s 3d and 25s 6d. British Tobaccos ran up from 31s to 33s 6d, relapsed to 325, and closed at 32s 3d—last week's range was from 28s 7d to 28s. Colonial Sugars advanced to dealings at £3O 15s and £3l, and more are wanted at £3l, sellers at £3l 15s. Electrolytic Zinc preference were released at 17s 4d, 17s 6d, 17s 7d, and 17s Id. Leyland O'Brien Timbers had business at 23s 6d and Milne and Choyce at 245. Mount Lyells fluctuated from 16s 9d to 18s lid, to 17s 4d. New Zealand Drug Company shares were unaltered at 57s 6d. New Zealand Farmers Co-op. 6J per cent., 1939 Stock changed hands at £77. New Zealand Farmers' Fertilisers weakened to 17s 6d. Wilson's Cements were easier at 38s i'd and 395, market closing 38s buyers, 40s sellers. Gold Mining. Mahakipawas, on a local turnover of 25,700 shares, eased from 8d 'to 3Jd, recovering to 6}d (last Week they went from 6}d to 9sd, closing at 7jd). Kildares at 9d were 3d down on last recorded business. Okaritos relapsed to dealings at 7s 2d, 7s Id, and 7s. Waihis cum dividend advanced to 15s 4d. Grand Junctions were fractionally firmer at 2s Id and 2s 2d. Winding Creek 9d paid realised lid and 2id.
