PROPOSED ABANDONMENT OF APPEAL. CR. A. M'LACHLAN'S NOTICE OF MOTION. Amongst the 1 >usiiioss lor discussion iit to-night's meeting of the City Council is ft motion, notice cf which was given by C'r. A. A. McLachlan, relnlive to the appeal in the Cathedral square injunction case. The motion proposes that the appeal in connexion with Cathedral square, down for hearing by the Court of Appeal in Wellington on Wednesday, be abandoned, and .that the Council get up a sub-committee, consisting of three Councillors and such engineers and surveyors -is the Council may - select, for the' purpose of investigating the many problems relating to tho Square. Cr. McLachlan told a representative of The Press on Saturday that his main idea was to prevent further expensivs legislation. .He thought tna<, it was almost certain that, whatever ivav the derision of the Appeal Court went, it would not satisfy one or the other party, and the matter would be carried'to the Privy Council.
