SUMNER LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the. Sumner Voluntoer Lifeboat Institution was held, when the Mayor (Mr W. H. Nicholson) presided. Tho annual report showed that the institution had had a record year. There had b«;en 25 practices. During tho year the crew had acted as convoy to craft taking the bar and had "stood by" on several occasions when it was expected that help might be needed, 'lhanks wereduo to the treasurer (MrC. I. Denham) for the highly efficient in which he had carried out his duties during a record, financial year. A vote of-'thanks was due also to the secretary (Mr C. F. Hines) for his untiring efforts during the .year/ The receipts in the trust account amounted to £2023 16s 9d and the expenditure to £2022 2s Bd. Donations had totalled £163 16s. The banji overdraft had been reduced about £3OO and .now stood at £461 lis. The reoeipts in the post office account (including grants, £55) amounted to £75 3s 4d, and the expenditure to £63 13s 4d. j Tho balance-sheet and annual report were adopted. \ A vote of sympathy 1 was passed with Mr R. Barber in the loss of his sister, Mrs G.-W. Booth.
Mr C. I. Denham intimated that he was retiring from the active list and that he did so with the deepest regret. The captain (Mr G. Hines) expressed the regret of members. They were losing a highly esteemed officer. It was resolved to accept the retirement with regret. Mr Denham to accept a life membership and to continue as treasurer. Two new members were elected. The Mayor then presented the following awards:—Gold bar, 20 years' service, deputy-captain C. I. Denham ; gold 'bar, 20 years, first officer F. N. Kerr; gold bar, 15 years' membership, 11. J. Marr inert gold medal v third officer S. O. Nicnolson. The captain congratulated the winners of the awards and thanked them for their unswerving loyalty. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, the Mayor; captain, G. Hines; deputy-captain, F. N. Kerr; first officer,~R. A. Kerr; second officer. S. O. Nicholson; secretary, C. F. Hines; chairman, C. Bowman; auditor, J. Mensies; treasurer, C. I. Denham.
