Two first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 10s and costs, in default 2-1 hours imprisonment. , , James Davidson, aged 57, of Scotland, a xerend offender for drunkenness, was lined 20s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. REMANDED. \ postal officer, aged 18, was charged that 1 on September 2Cth, at Christchurch, ho, did, contrary to his duty, wilfully detain a postal J. Carroll, asking- for a remand until October 2nd, said there were several charges against the boy, whose mother had lequeatcd that his name be suppressed in the meantime. There was no suggestion of dishonesty in the case, but accused had withheld a number of letters. The police had not had time yet to go thoroughly into the matteT . . The Magistrate said that in view o. i.hat th<- Chief-Detective had said, ho deemed it advisable to order, the suppression or the hnVehame.
