NEW BRIGHTON SCHOOL.
« —— SPRING FLOWER SHOW. The annual spring flower show conducted by the Hew Brighton School was held on Saturday afternoon and evening, the display being one of tho finest ever held in the borough. In declaring tho flower show open, the chairman of the School Committee (Mr V. D. Muirson) referred to the untiring efforts of the committee and the school staff. The Mayor (Mr J, H. Shaw) addressed the gathering briefly. Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., spoke of the importance of the development of a sense of beauty, and congratulated those responsible upon the success of the function. The following wore the stallholders Sweets stall, Mrs Pearson and staff; fancy stall, Miss Brown and Standard VI. girls; cake stall, Mrs Moses; produce stall, Mrs T. Robins and Mrs it. Pearse; flower Btall, Mrs J. Bellamy and H. 0. Brooks. The afternoon tea arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames Fraser and Mitchell (W.C.T.U.). Mr Barrett, of Christchurch, was judge at the flower show. During the afternoon a number of dances were given by the pupils of Standards IV., V., and VI., the performances reflecting great credit upon both teachers and pupils.
