WELLINGTON', September 27. In the laßt gamo of the season played here this afternoon Wellington defeated Taranaki by 11 points to 4. The game was eauly the best interprovincial fixture seen at Atnletic Park this year, for the teams were far more evenly matched than even the seven points difference between them suggests, and, territorially, Taranaki had a slight advantage. Wellington, however, had by far the greater finish, and though one try was rather a lucky one, it deserved to win on the day's play. Cooke was indirectly responsible for the first try scored by Mackay, while, later in the second spell, Barry scored at the end of a forward rush. Cooke also kicked a penalty goal. J' For Taranaki Galbraith potted a good field goal. McLean. Cooke, and Julian, all members of the Wellington team, were injured during the match and had to retire. IN OTHER CENTRES.
