TRAMWAY FINANCE.
BIG DECREASE IN RECEIPTS. For the four weeks ended August 17th, 1930, which included Grand National Wi'fk, the revenue of the Christohurch trnmwavs showed n decrease of £1023 when compared with the corresponding period or 1929. Receipts from special trams running to'and from the Metropolitan trotting ground decreased by £179, and from those carrying patrons of the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting by £355, while the sales of seaside excursion tickets also declined substantially. However, operating expenses for the period were lower by £lsOl this year, so that the net result was an improvement of £302 Those savings wero comprised of £lO3l in the engineer's section. £774 of this being permanent way, and £377 iri the traffic department.
Reporting the above details to the Trnmwav Board at yesterday's mooting, the Works and Traffic Committee also stated:—
Tn connexion with the three bus routes which are operated by the Board's own staff, it is to be noted that tho earnings went up by £42, while the expenses went down £25. There was nn increase in standing fharges of £O. The net deficiency for the period was £66. as against £124 last year. If, however, these services were relieved of a share of certain general expenses common to the whole trnmwi}\ undertaking, find which the buses dul not increase, the account would balance.
The subsidised services cost the Board £139 for the period.
