NEW ZEALAND SQUADRON.

* RECENT APPOINTMENTS. (ynoit 6V&, 6wa coaassposDExi.) LONDON, August 15. It is officially announced that Commander V. A. C. Crutchley, V.C., D.8.C., has been appointed to Diomede and lent to the Now Zealand Division. Other officers appointed to the same ship in-clude:—Lieut.-Commander W. H. Bremncr, D.8.0., D.S.C., Lieut.-Commander A. W. Clarke, Lieut. M. J. Toole, Lieut. R. J. H. Ryan, V. F. Boyle, Gunnars J. Dobson and C. H. 11. Deakin (T.), (July 26th). Commander Victor A. C. Crutchley was born in November, 1893, and entered the Service on September 15th, 1906. Ho served as Lioutenant in the Centurion and Sikh (during the War), the Petersfield and Thunderer. As Lieut.-Commander he was in Queen Elinabcth and Ceres; as Commander in Ceres and Vivid (as training commander). Commander Crutchley was awarded tho D.S.C. for services in operations against Zecbrugge and Ostende in April, 1918. Ho was mentioned in dispatches and awarded the V.C. for distinguished services in the 2nd blocking operations against Ostende, May 1918. In recognition of his war services he recoived from the* King of the Belgians the Croix de Guerre. Lieut.-Commander W. H. Bromner was born in September, 1894, and entered the Royal Navy in May, 1907. He saw war servico in the C.M.B.'b Enchantress and Calcutta (as War Staff Officer), with the rank of Lieutenant, and while in the latter ship he was promoted Lieutenant-Commander (as War Stan* Officer), and then transferred to Berwick. Lieut.-Commander Bremner was mentioned in dispatches for distinguished services in operations against Zeebrugge and Ostende, April 1918. He was again mentioned in Dispatches and awarded a D.B.C. for specially distinguished services in tho second blocking operations against Ostende, May, 1918. The D.S.O. was bestowed for services while in command of C.M.B. 79 in an attack on Cronstadt Harbour, August 18th, 1919. He torpedoed S/M, Depot Ship Pamiat-Azpv, and his boat wa> destroyed directly afterwards. Thip officer is a very keen lawn tennis player, and has during the past few weeks been taking a proinjnnent part in lawn tennis tournaments connected with the Service.' Lieut.Commander Bremner is married and has a small son aged four. Mrs Bremner and her son will leave for New Zealand oh August 29th by the Rahgitata. Lieut.-Commander A. W. Clarke, who was born in April, 18 ( J8 t entered the Royal Navy at the beginning of 1911. He served as Midshipman in the Royal : Oak, then, as Lieutenant in the same I ship, being transferred later to Triad (Navigation Officer) and Queen Eliza- | beth (Assistant Navigation Officer). When prprnoted Lieutenant-Commander he, was in Dryad and Calypso (as Navir gatisn Officer in each case), and Queen Elizabeth (Staff Officer—Operations). Lieut. Michael J. Toole, born in December, 1897, was promoted Mate in December 1922, and served as Mate in Calypso and Raniillies; on promotion to LicUteniht he was first in Ram-Hies, then transferred to Tiger, and later to Marlborough in 3rd B.S. (Boys' Training Sqtiadron), Command of the Veronica.

I'rom August Ist the appointment dates of Commander 11. L. Morgan, D.5.0., to command the sloop Veronica, on the New Zealand Station. Referring to this appointment, "The Times" says that Commander Morgan, who is a native of Helston, Cornwall, hasj associations with New Zealand, and from April, 1927, was lent to the Dominion government as Commander of the cruiser Dunedin. During the late War he was navigator of the light cruiser Patrol at the time of the Hartlepool raid, in the monitor Marshal Ney, cruiser Active at Jutland. He was app6inted D.S.O. for niinesweeping duty after the Armistice, and was promoted to Commander in June, 1924. Commander Morgan succeeds Commander C. W. T. Robertson in the Veronica.
