"THIS MAD WORLDS "This Mad World," the main feature of a double bill at the Theatre Royal, is an engrossing story of the age-old conflict between love and patriotism. It; U an English adaptation of t Trench war play. The action takes place during the German occupation of Alsa<fe Lorraine ip the Great War. Whle Victoria, the wife of a German general, is staying at the home of a loyal French woman, the letter's son, an espionage agent in. the French Army, arrives. Victoria'learns the son's true character, and attempts to inform the German garrison stationed in the neighbourhood. Paul, the; spy, thwarts her plans, and of military necessity is expected to take the., lady's life. Be forgets duty in'admiration of her courage and grants her a respite. Both eventually forget their love of country and surrender to a mutual love, but a strange coincidence recalls Victoria, and the shot which warns the Germans and betrays Paul comes from the revolver with which die commits suicide. This fateful climax closes one of the most powerful stories yet filmed.- Kay Johnson, as Victoria, and Basil Rathbone, as Paul, act in a sincere and convincing manner in. the picture and lesser roles are in capable hands. On the same programme is a comedydrama, "Be Yourself," a story of the boxing ring and cabaret life. Fannie Brice is the star.
