Awarua —Mnlieno, C4ty of Lyons, Tulanekai, Xarbada, Somerset, Armadale, NEW IV AND O. LINERS.
.Details ure now officially available of the two steamers to be built for the P. und. 0. Company's Struits-China-Japau mail and passenger service, and for which orders have been placed with' Messrs Alexander Stephen and Sons, Ltd., of Glasgow. They will be vessels o£ 14,500 tons gross, with a loneth of 520 ft, a breadth of 70ft, and a maximum druft of 30ft. Cabins will be provided ou two decks for, approximately 164 first and 150 second Baloon passengers. Those of the will consist of two-berth and singlo-bextli . cabins, together with four twoberth de luxe cabins and four . single-berth bathroom cab'ns. Among the second-class cabins will, be. % fair' proportion of cabins for two pa'ssengoTs, and ample provision for family parties. The new ships will have cruiser sterns and two funnels, and will be driven by stnglereduction geared turbines of 14,000 horsepower, with steam from high-proasure, watertube boilers. Completion of the earlier one is expected by August, 1931, and of the other in the, following October.
