HALSWELL POWER.

PROPOSED PURCHASE OF TAI TAPU PLANT. The ratepayers of the Halswell district met on Tuesday evening in the Tai Tapu Hall to discuss the proposed purchase of the Tai Tapu Dairy Company's electric power reticulation by the Springs-EUesmere Power Board. Mr C. P. Agar (general manager of the Tai Tapu Dairy Company) explained the financial aspect of the proposed change-over, and Mr H. Neave (chairman of the Spnngs-Ellesmere Power Board) gave further details, assuring the ratepayers that there was no likelihood of a rate being levied in connexion with the change. Mr R. G. Mac Gibbon, Of the Public Works Department, spoke on the Department's attitude. At the conclusion of the meeting the majority of the ratepayers present gigned the petition requesting the change-over, which will be presented to the Government.
