MAGISTERIAL. WEDNESDAY. (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) INCOME TAX RETURNS. . In cases involving omission to furnish income tax returns, William Davidson, a» • tax payer, and Henry St. Aubyn Murray, as a person in business, were each fined £2 and. costs. ' Mr A. W. Brown appeared for the Department. LAND TAX RETURN. Albert John Tutton, charged with being tlie owner of land of an unimproved value of £SOO or over, and failing to furnish a land tax return, was fined £3 and coats. Mr A. W. Brown represented the Department. • BUILDER PINED. James Matthews was charged that on August 21st he did commence building woru, that during the course of the work persons engaged on it incurred the risk of a fall of twelve feet or more, and that he commenced the work without first notifying the scaffolding inspector of the time he intended to begin. He was fined £1 and costß. SHOP CLOSING HOURS. For failing to close a shop in which smoking materials wera sold at the requisite hour fines of £1 were imposed, and for failing to notify an inspector, as soon as practicable when smoking requisites were being sola, fines of 10b and costs wera imposod upon the following:—William Baxter Aird. Annie Bate, Claude Laurence Halo, William James Mitchell, and Elizabeth Mary Aua Rowlands. RANGIORA. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) Thomas Kendall pleaded guilty to hawking drapery in the borough without a license. Ho was convicted and ordered to pay solicitor's costs, 10s 6d. Judgment for plaintiffs by default was giver, in the following cases: —Palmer and Peak v. J. Voice. £2 16a 9d; Commissioner of Taxes v. Ivy G. Geddls, £9 3a Od; name v. White Rock Lime and Stone Co., £3 2s fcd; A R. James v. J. A. Sincock, 17a- A. P. Strang v. J Whyt.o, £7 14s 6d; same v. C. G. Scholfield. £7 Os 2d. Judgment Summonses —H. Pohio was ordered to pay J. McMillan £3 12s lid forthwith, in default four days in Paparua Gaol. E. H. Patoman was ordered to pay the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., £2 9s forthwith, in default three days in Paparua Gaol. E. H. Pateman was ordered to pay Shankland and Taylor £2 13s 6d forthwith, in default threo days iu Paparua Gaol. In a defended case, in which E. H Kevern claimed from W. Arundel £9 10s 6d for fer.cing stakes, strainers, and posts, judgment was given for plaintiff for £5 3s 6d, less £5 2s paid into Court. In the Children's Court a boy charged with theft was committed to the care of the Superintendent of the Children's Welfare Society.
