A HARRIERS' SERVICE.

SERMON BY REV. W. T. BLIGHT. At the Durham street Methodist Church yesterday morning the members of the combined Harriers' Clubs of Christchurch attended a special service, at which the Eev. T. W. Blight preached. The parade last year was so successful that it was decided to make it an annual one. The clubs represented were the Christchurch, the Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Baptist Harrier Clubs, and about. 30 members attended. In welcoming the harriers, Mr Blight asid that the intrinsic value of the movement was, that it laid stress on the development of the body. Physical fitness was a thing to bo encouraged by Christianity, for the temptations peculiar to young people wore largely centred in the body. It was good also that they should come to church together for it gave them an opportunity to test their movement by the standards of Christ. ' It also enabled them to come to a place of fellowship, and he would magnify any movement that brought men together, opposing any that would divide them. Beligion unfortunately had tended at times to divide men, causing some of the fiercest wars, and causing strife within families. It was possible for a thing initially of good purpose to fall away, for unhealthy rivalry to set in, for wrong ideals to occupy the major interest of a man's life. He did not know anything intrinsically wrong in racing horses, but now in New Zealand the sport had fallen away and become a menace. At the request of Mr Blight the members of the congregation rose to endorse a motion circulated among all the churches of Christchurch to protest against the Gaming Act now before Parliament. . ; .
