ARSENIC-COATED SWEETS.
DETECTIVES' DISCOVERY IN A FACTORY. (UIrtTED Pr.ESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELICTBIC TELEGRAPH —COPYBIGJIT.) (Received September 14th, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 13. following the illness of thirteen children in Cheshire, which was traced to arsenic-coated coughdrops supplied by a factory at Bruslem in Staffordshire, detectives made an atnasing discovery in a Tunstall workshop. Buried under a heap of rubbish beneath the staircase, they found ft box containing half a hundredweight of arsenic, sufficient to kill '*oo,ooo people. A health officer expressed the opinion that there was no doubt that this was the source of the supply of "powder" with which the sweets were dusted in the factory. . The occupier said that he r.btamed the powder from a roan now in America. He did not know it woa arsenic. At least seventeen bottles of sweets are known to hare been consumed, and efforts are being made to trace tweiye others. Many more children »n afferent localities have suffered.
