Steady progress, was recorded in the membership which now stood at 186, while the total of books on the shelves was 1150 volumes. ; The average monthly issue of books was 1050. Th« thanks of the committee were due to Mr R. Retallick, who had undertaken duties of librarian, and to. those members of the committee who-had carried on since bis resigna- . tion.. Additional fundi} had been obtained during the year by means of a Sunday concert) in Beckenham Park and an art; union, and there was now a credit' \ balance of £4O. . The thanks of the committee were due to Miss Mnson for the use of her' building and the care of books, also to -donors of books during the year. A recommendation' that the formation of a ladies' committee be considered was referred to the incoming cpmmittee. . '' <, ' ■ In moving the adoption, of the report nnd balance-sheet, the chairman 1 (Mr J. A. Ayres) said the library had had an.eventful .year of progress, but there was; still a good deal of &pade work to be dona. The provision of a .more suitable building as promised ; by the Goiincil would do a great deal- towards, solving their problem of finding sufficient shelving accommodation: for. the growing number of books. A campaign for more subscribers would be undertaken/and- he thought the membership ■■ would be considerably increased in the»near future. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, .and a vote of thanks passed to the outgoing committee. The following were elected as a committee for "the ensuing year: Messrs E. M." Smith. E Thornton. S.
