PLOUGHING MATCH.

NORTH CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION.

The fifteenth annual ploughing match ol the Korth Canterbury Association waa held yestei-day in & paddock lent by Mr R. Peach, at Asldry. The match, is held under tho auspices ol the' North Canterbury A. and P. Association, the members of which take a good deal of interest-, in the . eTent. Mr I. D. Wyllie la chairman of tho. committee, . Mr W. C, Piasser is hoioraiy secretary, and Mr W.. Mackenzie is -honorary treasurer. , Owing to a death in the. family, J. G. S. Wyjlie and J. B. Wyllia (Sefton) did not compete. The competitions • wero held in i ideal . weather conditions) , but owing to the. heivy . rains of late, the ground waa. inclined to be a .little too wet in places;' the paddock, however, was an ideal one for the purpose, being most conveniently situated near the road, and close to-the -Ashley railway station. There was a large attendance of . the gen-, eral public, who showed a good deal of interest in tho work of the competitors. The judges were: Ploughing team's, Messrs J. Turnbull (Christchurch), ' 6. , Hunter fPukeuri), J. C. Hay (Morven), and W. Wrigley (Riccarton); tractor ploughing, Messrs J. Gilmour (Tai Tapu) and J. Calder (Halkett); harness and grooming, Messrs W. J. Doak (Wakanui) and W.'Hendrie (Ashbur. ton). Last night a social was held in the Sefton Town Hall, when the prizes won during' the day were presented. The following were the awards:— CLASS 'A—Champion D.F. (Open).
