NORTH CANTERBURY.
RANGIORA. There was a good attendance at a "har4-up" social in the parish hall on Saturday evening, organised to augment the funds for the Anglican Church bazaar, which is to be held in November. Cecil Hunnibell's band provided the music for the dance. Members of the North Canterbury Poultry Club paid a visit to the Christchurch Poultry Club on Saturday evening,' and spent a very pleasant time. A cards match was played, the visitors being the winners by 40 games to 36. General regret was expressed in Rangiora on Saturday when it became known that Mrs Rodgers, wife of Mr D. Rodgers, of the Junction Hotel, had died early that morning in the Christchurch Hospital after a short illness. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr Rodgers and his yojing family. During her residence in Rangiora Mrs Rodgers had become very popular and had made many friends. KAIAPOI. The relatives and friends of the late Mr Henry Englebrecht attended his funeral at the Church of England Cemetery, Kaiapoi, yesterday afternoon. to pay their last respects to on© of the oldest identities of the district. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Cauon Hamilton, and the pall-bearers were Messrs G. Cross, G. Englebrecht, E. Carpenter, J. Mcllroy, H. Light, and P. Englebrecht. The chief mourners were Mr and Mrs H. Inch, Mr and Mrs F. Englebrecht, Mr and Mrs E. Carpenter, Messrs T. Englebrecht. and G. Englebrecht. Others present were Hon. I). Buddo, M.L.C.. Messrs W. A. Banks, T. Giles, A. Giles, P. Giles, A. Banks, L. Giles, W. Giles. R. Read L. W. E. Giles, W. Bowman, O. Giles, H. Wilson. J. Wright, V. Wilson, G. Schofield. O. Holland, J Holland. W. R. Coup. T. Holland, H. Vaughan. F. Holland, F. Thorne, and R. H. Belcher. Flora] tributes were received from the family, Mr and Mrs H. Inch and family. Mr and Mrs F. W. Englebrecht and familv Mr and Mrs E. H. Enclebrecht and familv Ted, Martha and th<* children Florrie and Leslie, Florrie and Frank Aunt Ada and cousins. Mr and Mrs North, Mr and i Mrs E. Wanklyn, Mr and Mrs R. Gardner, Mrs W. Storer. and Mrs JWinter. KAIKOURA. There was a good attendance at the band euchro evening, Mrs P. Foster and Mr A. W. Ball being the winners. A return Rugby match between the Puhi Puhi and Hapuku School teams was played, and resulted in a win for Puhi by 17 points to 12. C. Hodgetts scored five tries for Puhi, and converted one, while G. Eaton (2), E. Eaton and R. Howard were the Bcorers for Hapuku. Mr A. E. Wishart controlled the game. A programme of varied and interesting lantern pictures was shown bv the Rev, F. Robertson, at the Kowhai Presbyterian Church, when a collection was taken up in aid of tho Sunday School funds. The death occurred on Saturday, of Mrs Katherine Elizabeth Boyd, wife of Mr James D. Boyd, Mill road, and daughter of Mr and Mrs Alex. Boyd, Kaikoura. Mrs Bovd wa3 possessed of a most kindly disposition. She took a been interest in chnrcb work, and, was held in high esteem by all with whom she came in contact. She suffered a lingering illness, and her dlath was not unexpected. She is surrived bv her hnsband and two sons and three daughters, to whom heartfelt sympathy will be extended. ' WOODEND. At the fortnightlv euchre tournament at Woodend, the prizes were won by Miss B. Smith. Mrs A. Smith, Mr A. Smith, and Mr W. Hewitt. A well attended meeting of the Mothers' Union, presided over by Mrs R. Macdonald, was held in the Anglican Sunday School. An address, appreciated by all present, was given by Mrs Cracroft Wilson, of Christchurch. Mr H. Foston delivered an interesting lecture on "The Maori Race, Past, Present, and Future" —in tho Public Hall, Woodend. The-lecture was illustrated by lantern slides. The Woodend basketball team were defeated by a team from Clarkville by 29 points to 2.
