DEFENCE ACT.
AN OTAGO RESOLUTION. (P BSM i.S«OCIA.TIOJ» TZLZORUt.) DTTNEDIN. July 21. A meeting of the newly formed Otago District Council of the National Defence League of New Zealand was held this afternoon. Sir James Allen was elected president, and the Mayor of Dunedin (Mr R. S. Black) and Mr J W Clark vice-presidents. The following resolution was passed: —"That this meeting of the Otago D : strict Council, whilst recognising the necessitv for economy, is very strongly of the opinion thst nothing should be done to alter the present Defence Act and the poiicv underlving it until the wbole a "est ion of defence has been thorouarh'v investigated and reported on b\ a Rnvnl Co*"mi*nion. to he set un at the earliest nosnb'e opportunity. This meetin<» is further of opinion th»t it iR most nndesirnMe to reduce the nersonnel of the New Zealand st.Bff corns and permanent R tafT until the report of t!'«+ Roval Commission has been received."
