BRIGHTON BRIDGE

THE CITY'S SHARE. LOAN TO BE RAISED. A loan of £4777 is to be raised by the City Council to meet its share of the cost of erecting the new bridge over the Avon at New Brighton. The By-laws, Finance and Departmental Committee reported to last night's meeting of the City Council that an a tender bad been left for the erection of th® bridge, it waa necessary to make arrangements, for the payment of the Council's cost. The maximum amount for. which the Council was liable was approximately £4540, less the Tramway Board's contribution of £ISOO. making a. net amount ot £3040. This did not include any extras that might be incurred during the erection pf the bridge, . Section 37 of the Looal Legislation Act. 1957, gave the Council power to raise a loan of £4777 to meet its con* tribution. Tho committee recommended that the Town Clerk be instructed to take the necessary steps to raise a loan for the purpose of meeting the Council's liability in connexion with this bridge. • The report was adopted.
