YESTERDAY'S TRANSACTIONS. Markets on the whole remained firm on call yesterday, but the recorded turnover was below the average. Transactions, exclusive of vestibule business, included:— 200 Comm. Bank of Auat. (cum div.). 15 Union Bank of Aust. (cum div.). '2OO Christchurch Gas. 105 New Zealand Breweries. 200 Tooths Brewery. 100 Electro. Zinc (pref. cum div.). 100 Mt. Lyell. 100 Mt. Lyell ("rights"). 1500 Mahakipawa. Buyers' quotations for all Government issues were at recent levels, no sellers offering. Commercial Bank of Australia shares were fractionally weaker with dealings at 20s lid, and further sellers at that price; buyers at 20s lOd. Buyers of Bank of New South Wales shafes moved up to £.35 ss, sellers at £35 17s 6d. Bank of New Zealand shares eased to 56s sellers, 55b 6d buyers. Union Bank of Australia shares cum dividend were firm at £ll 5s Gd, market closing £ll 5s buyers, £ll 8s sellers.
Sellers of New Zealand " Insurance shares cum dividend reduced their limits to 4Gs without attracting buyers. P. and O. Deferred Stock had buyers at 43s 6d, sellers at 45s 9d. Christchurch Gas shares had dealings at 25s lOd, and more were offered at that figure, buyers at 25s 9d. New Zealand Breweries shares realised 495, closing quotations 48s 6d buyers, 49s Id sellers. Tooths Brewery shares eased to dealings at 29s 7d, closing quotations Id on either side. British Tobacco shares hardened to 37s 3d buyers, 37s 5d sellers. Electrolytic Zinc preference shares were taken at 23s Gd, market closing 23s 5d buyers, 23s lid sellers. Mt. Lyells realised 23s lOd, sellers staying in at that price, buyers at 23s 9d—the "right: '' were firm at 2s sd, but closed weaker with sellers •at 2s 4d, buyers at 2s Id. Buyers of Whitcombc and Tombs shares raised their bids to 68s, sellers at 71s. Wilson's Cement shares were offered at 425, buyers at 39s 9d. Mahakipawa Goldfields shares remained unaltered at 2d.
