Commenting on this, Sidky Pasha says that the declaration would have been justified if Egypt )iad solicited Britain's aid, but in the absence of eucb a reqwst, which, while Egypt is • in tho position of an independent State, will not , be made, the declaration can only be interpreted as an interference in affairs over which Egypt has the sovereign prerogative Sidky expresses regret at incidents in the recent riots, and stresses the fact that the safety and interests of foreigners will immediately be given attention.
