A visit f waß 'next iiuulv 'to Bortliwick's Freezing Works where , the operations' incidental to killing,-treeE-ing. and preparing, pelts for export, were demonstrated to the children/The preparation of bone and dried-blood manures was also witnessed. In the afternoon, the class met at the resideiKoe of Mr J. Brown, chief agricultural instructor for Canterbury schools, and the children were each
given an opportunity of trying their hands at pruning fruit trees. Later Mr Stead's well-known orchard at Chanevs was 'visited, and more pruning practice indulged in. Mr Stead also explained the "extensive system of . spraying by means of a series oi underground pines running through thp whole orchard, and the laying out of an orchard in rows. Much to their delicht the vonn" si"htsoers we>*e permitted to sample the mnnv things which were growinrr in the orehnrd. The thanks of the boys and their teacher (Mr S.
