ACCIDENTS.
MOTOR-CYCLISTS INJURED. Two motor-cyclists and a youth who was a pillion passenger on one of the machines were injured in an accident on the Rakaia road yesterday. A. R. Duff, aged 18. of Leeston, who had as his passenger his brother, Cyril Duff, aged 17, fell off his motor-cycle when it skidded in some loose shingle. Bert Carr, aged JB, also of Leeston, was riding behind the Duffs' machine. When it fell be was apparently unable to stop and ran over the fallen machine. ~.'«, • 4. All were admitted to tho Christchurch Public Hospital at 4.50 p.m. Cyril Duff received injuries to his hands and face, and was treated m the outpatients' department and discharged. Carr received injuries to his back and is suffering from shock. His condition is- reported as satisfactory. A. R. Duff had his head and one ot his ears injured. He was unconscious when admitted to Hospital, but later regained consciousness. His condition is reported to be serious. YOUNG MAN BURNED. Severe burns on the .face and hands were received by H. Taylor, a young single man, of 261 Barbadoes street, on Saturday morning. Taylor is employed by C. Taylor and Company, Ltd., and was burned when some petrol he was using caught alight. He was taken to tho Christchurch Public Hospital. His condition is regarded ,-as serious. BURNED TO DEATH. (rKBSS_ ASSOCIATION TILBGBAIf.) PALMEItSTON N., July 13. A fatal fire occurred at Levm just after midnight on Saturday, when a single man, George Alfred Widdows, aged 47, was trapped in a one-roomed building..with only, one door and two pmall windows. When firemen were able to penetrate through- the flames and fumes his body was found near the door. He was a returned soldier, and . was employed as, a builder's labourer. He was a native of. London, and iiad been in Levin "for about 30 years.
KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR. Raymond Taylor, a boy aged six, of 111 Smith street, WoolstOn, was knocked down by a car in 'Ferry road on Saturday 'afternoon. He was admitted to tibe Public Hospital, unconscious and suffering from head injuries. He Inter regained consciousness, but'his uuiait'.on i,s serious. CYCLIST INJURED. , AVhile riding his bicycle on Saturday afternoon, Lewis Glover, aged 14, of I 250 Worcester street, collided with a oar at the corner of BoUeston avenue and Armagh street. He was rendered unconscious and taken to the Christchurch Hospital, where he. later regained consciousness.. His condition is stated to be not serious. THROWN FROM HORSE.
