ANIMAL BREEDING.

LINCOLN COLLEGE SEEKS INFORMATION. "We have accumulated useful information during the past three years regarding the size, type, and feeding of pigs, but it has cost us at least 10s a" pig for the 500 we have exported, making a loss of £250," said the director of the Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln (Dr. E. E. Alexander), at a meeting of the College Board of Governors . yesterday. "We are trying to do the right thing, but are losing by it," he continued. A decision was reached that the Board should apply to the Research Department for a refund of that loss, Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., stating that the Government should stand the cost. "What we need badly," said Dr. Alexander, "is an 'authority on animal breeding. It is no use our sending fat pigs Home, unless wo are acquainted with all the information on the subject which is available." The following resolution was then carried:—"That the Board, recognising the importance of the sheep industry and other animal breeding to the Dominion, authorises the Director to communicate, through the Empire Marketing Board, with Mr D. J. Sidey (a representative of the Marketing Board and the College at present in England, who is studying breeding matters on their behalf), requesting him to acquire- all the information available bo as to advise sheep breeders and others concerned."
